Nitro’s lose 3-1 to Nelson Leafs

Unfortunately I arrived late to the game and missed the first period as my daughter decided to have the “technicolor yawn” just as we walked out the door for the game. So I am sorry to the fans of the team, followers of this blog, and parents of the players for not having as much content for this game.

There was an attendance of 643 at the game, and they were well entertained, however the Nitro’s lost 3-1 with all the goals being scored in the second period.

The Nitro’s opened the scoring early in the second with a short-handed goal. Buckley stole the puck, and worked it past one defender and chipped it by another to eventually feed the puck to Richter who buried the puck.

The Leafs tied it up two minutes later, when their bruiser (or atleast their PIM leader) snapped it past Brouwer, all after Perpelitz was checked at centre ice and lost the puck. Another two minutes later Petrick from the Leafs scored to give Nelson the lead. And moments later Vlanich scored a short-handed goal.

The Nitro’s did put the puck in again late in the second. However the ref waved the goal off. In all truth, if the ref was afraid of high-sticks, he should have blown the whistle when the puck was stuck on the net.

The Leafs also had a goal waved off, when they tried taking out Brouwer and then putting the puck in, it doesn’t quite work like that.

I kept hoping for a “Leafs collapse” or a comeback like the Nitro’s had over the Heat. But that didn’t happen. When the game ended, you could tell tensions were high.

And then after reading the boxscore, looks like things started getting intense before the game started with a minor being dished out against Nelson’s Miller.

The Nitro’s Player of the Game was Brouwer. The team was outshot, and at times outplayed during the third, and Brouwer kept the puck out and gave the Nitro’s a chance to get back in the game.
